The Portrait Masters Awards 2018

I received five bronze awards from the 2018 Awards and Accreditation program for the Portrait Masters. This international awards and accreditation program is held twice a year and this is my second submission to this program. I have submitted images in January this year.

This international Awards and Accreditation is lead by a great photographer and my mentor, Sue Bryce and the standard of everyone’s work is very high.

There were 8 portrait masters from around the world judged the submitted images. They judged based on styling, composition, focus, lighting, connection, posing, post production and overall technique and presentation.

Five of my images were awarded Bronze (High Professional Standard) and I am so happy with the results.

I would like to thank you to Sola, Zelulah, Moana, Chelsea, and Rachel for giving me an opportunity to capture and I would like to thank you to Emma Christine, Rita Makhzoum, Josephine Keay, Angel Lucianna for hair and makeup.

Lastly, thank you to my Mentor, Sue Bryce.

The Portrait Masters Awards

The Portrait Masters Bronze Awards –

I recently received four bronze awards from the 2017 Awards and Accreditation program for the Portrait Masters.

I feel so grateful about this achievement. There were 5 portrait masters from around the world judged the submitted images. They judged based on styling, composition, focus, lighting, connection, posing, post production and overall technique and presentation.

I have been working hard this year to get my skills. I have submitted four images in the Contemporary Portrait category and all four images were awarded Bronze (High Professional Standard).

I am so happy with the recognition of my photography work.

I would like to thank you to Lily, Lorraine, Emma and Mandy for giving me an opportunity to capture and I would like to thank you to Emma Christine and Andrea King for hair and makeup.

Lastly, thank you to Sue Bryce for mentoring me.

Black Dress | What to Wear for a Portrait Session

What to wear is one of the most common questions to prepare for the photoshoot.

At Sumico Photography, we provide consultation about what to wear for all portrait sessions including the headshots.

I recommend the followings for headshots and other portrait sessions;

Clothes fit into your body (no baggy clothes)
Open neck (although the person who has a long neck, high neck will work)
No loud prints (it may look outdated later)
No large sized brand logos
Clothes with textures (fringe, glitters, laces, beads)
Bring some jackets (especially for the headshots)
Bring some scarves, accessories

If the session is for your business branding, then, I would suggest to wear something which compliments to your logo.

We can take photos for your website, flyers, Facebook or any other marketing materials.

Janine came for headshots to Sumico Photography studio located in Southside of Brisbane.

At the telephone consultation, she said that she does not have many clothes. I asked her to take some photos with mobile phone and send me the photos of clothes.

Janine sent me numbers of photos of clothing and I liked the simple black dress which has lacy texture. I asked her to bring some jackets, scarves, or accessories.

Mother’s Day Special

Dear All Mums, Please exist in photos.

Hi, I am Sumiko Eyears, a professional portrait photographer of Sumico Photography based between Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Recently, I have read an article in Sydney Morning Herald and I thought that many people can relate to the article.

“When my friend’s mother died he found himself desperately needing to have photos to remember his mum by. But it dawned on him for the first time that, despite loving his mum dearly, he’d never once taken a photo of her.

Hoping that other people had taken photos of his mum, my friend combed through his mum’s possessions and his own childhood memorabilia looking for them.

He eventually managed to unearth one. Just one. That was it. One photo in total.

And it wasn’t recent. It was a yellowed photo of him as a toddler dressed in overalls trying to scramble off his mother’s knee.”

One of my friends said recently, if she died tomorrow her young kids would have no evidence to show that she was in their lives.

I am a mum of a son and two furry children. I was the same like the mum – writer’s friend – who does not exist in my son’s childhood. I did not want to get in the photos. Every time I saw myself in the photos, I just looked for something wrong about myself. There are so many photos of my husband and him, our dog and him, him and his friends but very little photos of me and him. Now I regret and I wish that I would be in the photos more often. There is not much evidence that I was with him when he was little. Sadly, I cannot go back to the time when he was little and take photos of me and him.

Luckily, we had been taken photos professionally when our son was 7 year old and I love the photos. I am so glad that we did. That’s why I like to recommend the experience with professional photographers.

I like all the mum to exist in the photos for their children.

Handmade Tulle Dress

Tulle Dresses for photo shoot

At a portrait photography session by Sumico Photography, some tulle dresses are available for children and adults.

I enjoy making dresses, headpieces and backdrops. I made tulle skirts in cream, light blue, peach and black.

We also have tulle skirts in purple and red.

Tulle skirts are not only for children but for matured women too. It is really fun to try tulle skirts and feel like a princess.

Brisbane’s Best Christmas Light 2015

Brisbane’s Best Xmas Lights 2015 by Sheree and Robert from Sumico Photography on Vimeo.

I took photos how Sheree and Robert, the winner of “The Best Christmas Light in Brisbane” progressed setting up the Xmas light last year (2015).

They are my neighbours. I walk pass everyday with my dogs.

They siad that they started planning this Christmas light from February. It is amazing amount of time and efforts they put in for this amazing display. I started taking photos of their house from October through to the Christmas time.

I remembered one day in December last year, a strong storm hit our neighbourhood and their display and house got damaged. They worked very hard to restore the display and their family and friends came to help. I helped them a little bit, too.

Sheree and Robert told me how they started Xmas light;
“A little boy who was a neighbour was watching from his bedroom window daily waiting for the lights to come on. We were feeling a little despondent that year and thought it all too much trouble, but when his Mum told us about him sitting at his window it changed us. ”

Their motivation was for someone else. Who could put so much energy and effort for other people?
Beautiful story behind of beautiful Xmas light.
This year, they are decorating their home again and it is little bit different to last year.
